Who we are

Who we are

The Independent Workers' Union of Australia (IWUA) is a professional association whose principal purpose is to protect and promote the interests of members in matters concerning their employment or professional engagement. No membership fees are used to support any political party (including the ALP), so we are able to source and/or provide representation for all members, on all issues, better than our competitors.

As part of the Red Union Support Hub network, members are backed by a network of over 20,000 workers across Australia and New Zealand.

What we believe

What we believe

IWUA was formed by a group of workers who wanted to provide an alternate voice to the traditional, party-aligned trade unions. Joined by tens of thousands of other workers who had decided to form independent associations under the Red Union banner, IWUA supports:

  • Better pay and greater employee rights.
  • Better protection from workplace bullying, employer overreach, sham contracting, OHS issues and much more.
  • Zero politics - every membership dollar goes towards fighting for members, not political parties.
